KP to seek maximum Chinese investment through B2B model

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah said on Thursday that massive Chinese investment was expected to flow into Pakistan and the provincial government is making all-out efforts to ensure the province secures the maximum possible share of this investment.

Addressing an investment conference organised by the planning and development department to promote business-to-business engagement between local industrialists and Chinese investors via a video link, he said that the province offered immense opportunities for foreign investment and provincial government was providing a conducive environment for local industrialists through promotion of business-to-business

The conference was attended by officials of relevant provincial government departments and autonomous bodies, representatives of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, various trade and business organisations, investors, traders and foreign investors.

The chief secretary said that the business ideas presented by the participants at the conference would formally be shared with Chinese investors through the federal government for potential investment opportunities. He thanked the participants for their enthusiastic participation, keen interest and useful proposals, adding that their proposals and business ideas would prove highly beneficial towards attracting maximum Chinese investment.

He further stated that the conference was just a beginning and that the process of consultation and interaction with the business community and industrialists would continue in the future as well.

During the conference, relevant officials gave a detailed briefing to participants regarding the objectives, targets and other aspects of the conference. It was informed that the conference had been organized in the context of the Business-to-Business Investment Conference held last year in Beijing between Pakistani and Chinese investors last year.

Officials said the objective of the conference was to identify business ideas and investment proposals in potential sectors for business-to-business engagement with Chinese investors.

Officials further stated that the provincial government would encourage the export of value-added products instead of raw materials and would extend all possible support to local exporters in this regard.

They noted that the initiative would not only boost industrial activities in the province but would also help generate valuable foreign exchange and create employment opportunities for local people.
