PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control department on Wednesday impounded five vehicles in an ongoing campaign launched against unregistered vehicles, token tax defaulters and vehicles with invalid number plates in the provincial capital, officials said.

They stated that the department had launched the drive against vehicles yet to be registered adding that any vehicle, with registration applied for, was being confiscated besides vehicles were also being checked for token tax.

“The department has launched the campaign both against unregistered vehicles and those which have yet to pay token tax,” ETO-1 Masoodul Haq told Dawn, adding that in order to avoid impounding of vehicles, people besides paying token tax must get their vehicles registered.

He also stated that action was taken against people with invalid number plates as well. He stated that the impounded vehicles would be subjected to penalties and would be released only after completion of the registration process.

The initiative, according to Mr Haq, was aimed at improving road documentation, besides enhancing revenue.

When asked, Mr Haq informed that owners of the vehicles, who wanted to get registered their vehicles in other cities, would also face the same charges until they get registered their vehicles, adding that they should register their vehicles before entering the provincial capital.

Mr Haq also stated that in case a vehicle was registered in any other city having not paid the token tax would also be impounded and will not be released until the token tax was paid.
