KASUR: B-Division police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a police officer and threatening the additional deputy commissioner general (ADCG) with dire consequences if his candidate for the post of principal at District Public School (DPS) was not selected.

Interestingly, the suspect himself was a candidate for the position.

Police registered a case against him under sections 419 and 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act, 1885, on the complaint of Ali Hamza, a telephone operator at the DC Office.

According to the first information report (FIR), on April 25, the suspect called the ADCG, introducing himself as an additional inspector general (AIG) of Punjab Police, and pressurised the officer to appoint a specific candidate as principal at Kasur DPS against a vacant post.

On Tuesday, when the candidate appeared for the interview, the ADCG again received a call from the suspect threatening him to select the candidate or face consequences.

Meanwhile, the candidate was present at the DPS office. The school administration go suspicious and alerted the police.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect himself had made the call while present on the premises of the ADCG office. It was further discovered that the earlier call on April 25 had also been made by the same individual, falsely posing as a senior police officer.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as Syed Aftab Ahmed, a resident of Lahore.

Further investigation is underway.

This is the second incident of impersonation in a couple of days.

Earlier, on Monday, Chunian police arrested another suspect who had been posing as a head constable and extorting money from people in Changa Manga and Chunian on various pretexts.
