KARACHI: The city administration has approved 21 markets for sacrificial animals across the city ahead of Eidul Azha “for the facilitation of people”, officials said on Monday.
They referred to a notification which announced three cattle markets each in Malir, West and Central districts, four in Korangi, five in East, two in Keamari and one in South.
Out of those, they said, four would be permanent markets while 17 to be set up on a temporary basis for the occasion.
Six cattle markets will be managed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) while other markets will be established in different districts under the supervision of deputy commissioners’ offices and town municipal corporations (TMCs).
The main cattle market will be set up at the Northern Bypass while traditional markets in Malir, including Asu Goth and the Cattle Colony, will continue to operate.
“Local government authorities have been directed to ensure proper cleanliness, traffic management and security arrangements at all the market locations. The notification also makes waste management mandatory for the cattle markets operating under various institutions,” said the official.
In District West, the cattle markets would be set up in Taiser Town near Northern Bypass, Aftab Ground in Sector 11 ½ of Orangi Town and 2 ½ Number Ground of UC-9 in Orangi Town. In District Korangi, the officials said, the markets would be set up at K-Area Ground of Bagh-i-Korangi Road, Coastguard Korangi Garrison (Madina Colony), open space opposite to Attock Petrol Pump in Korangi and the Eidgah Ground at Korangi No. 5.
In Malir the markets would be set up in Aasoo Goth, Cattle Colony and Memon Dairy Farming Society near Deh Konhar while in District Central the facilities have been designated in Sunday Car Bazaar in Sector 11-D of North Karachi, Nazimabad No. 2 near Ghalib Library and New Karachi Sector 11-I. In District East, Dost Muhammad Khaskheli Goth near Deh Dozan, Azzemabad Housing Society Sohrab Goth, Block-5 & Block 6 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, KMC Ground behind Safari Park and Rizwan Housing Society near Safoora Chowrangi have been marked as designated places for the cattle markets.
In Keamari, Yousuf Goth near bus terminal behind Saeedabad police station and Maweshi Mandi Keamari would serve as spaces for this purpose while in District South the only facility would be set up at Naval Heights near Kala Pul.
