MANSEHRA: The Lower Kohistan district administration has put all relevant departments on high alert ahead of the monsoon season to effectively deal with flash floods and other emergencies.

“In view of the previous experience when people in the district suffered during the monsoon season due to continuous rains and flooding, all departments must remain vigilant and utilise their full resources to respond to any untoward situation,” deputy commissioner Tariq Mehmood told a meeting held at his office on Saturday.

The meeting, attended by the additional deputy commissioner, assistant commissioners, and heads of devolved departments, finalised a monsoon contingency plan and placed all departments on high alert.

Speaking on the occasion, additional deputy commissioner Abdul Wali Khan said that the management of the Dubair Khawar hydropower station should issue warnings before opening the spillways of the reservoir in case of flooding.

“People living along the banks of streams in the Dubai Valley should remain cautious during monsoon rains to avoid any emergencies,” he added.
