GUJRAT: An alleged paedophile was killed “in the firing by his own accomplices” during an encounter with Gujrat police in Jalalpur Jattan city’s Baghdadi Mohallah on Friday.

As per police, the killed suspect, Kafayat Ali, had allegedly attempted to rape a minor girl in Jalalpur Jattan a few days ago, and had also been accused of raping and murdering a teenage boy some five years ago.

A spokesman for Gujrat police said that a police party was on routine duty in Baghdadi Mohallah, when they signaled five unidentified men to stop for identification.

Instead, he said, the suspects opened fire on the police party, that was returned.

The police claimed that following a brief crossfire, the police found one of the suspects lying injured there. He was identified as Kafayat Ali, whereas his four accomplices managed to flee the scene.

They said the injured suspect succumbed to his wounds while being shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital (ABSTH).

The spokesman said that the Kafayat was wanted by Jalalpur Jattan city police in a case of a rape attempt on a minor girl. He was also prime suspect in a case of killing a boy after his rape, back in 2021.

The police have also registered a case against the fleeing suspects and started investigation.
