Asim, Aisam put Pakistan 2-0 ahead

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 8: Pakistan stormed to 2-0 lead over hosts Malaysia winning both the singles in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone 2 clash on the opening day Friday.

Asim Shafiq gave Pakistan a great start beating Malaysian number one Hazuan Hizan in four sets. Although he lost the second set but stamped his authority on the match wrapping up the match with 6-4 in the fourth set.

Later Pakistan’s number one Aisam ul Haq had to be at his best to wore down a determined Si Yew Meng also in four sets. In the first three sets tie breaks came into play but Asim outplayed his rival in the fourth set 6-2 to clinch the match.

Tomorrow (Saturday) the doubles will be played with the two singles slated for Sunday.

Asim Shafiq (Pak) bt Hazuan Hizan (Mas) 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4; Aisam Ul Haq Qureshi (Pak) bt Si Yew Meng (Mas) 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/2), 6-7 (3/7), 6-2.

Pakistan lead Malaysia 2-0.
