TRANSPORT FOR STUDENTS: Daily commuting in Karachi has become an ordeal due to overcrowded buses, unreliable schedules and rising fares. Students are forced to travel in unsafe conditions. During emergencies or adverse weather conditions, it becomes dangerously difficult for them to reach home. Female students, in particular, face serious safety concerns, while private transport remains unaffordable to many. While initiatives such as scooter schemes for women are commendable, they fail to address the broader issue. The authorities must take immediate action by introducing dedicated student transport, ensuring affordability and improving safety standards. If neglected, this crisis will continue to hinder students’ academic growth and future prospects.

COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS: As iconic institutions, Dow Medical College (DMC) and Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) have significantly contributed to the healthcare and education sectors by nurturing thousands of healthcare professionals. Despite these crucial contributions, it remains an oversight that commemorative postage stamps have never been released to honour these institutions. In 1996-1997, DMC celebrated its golden jubilee alongside the CHK centenary. In 2020, it marked its 75th anniversary. No commemorative postage stamps were issued on any of these momentous occasions. We should acknowledge their role in shaping the country’s overall healthcare landscape.

SACRED NAMES: I find it very disturbing that newspapers publish sacred names on one side of the paper and pictures of film stars on the other side. Newspapers should either not publish sacred names or refrain from publishing indecent content. For readers who are interested in celebrity news, gossips and entertainment content, there should be a separate magazine. We should take utmost care of the sanctity of the printed content.
