KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were shot dead in two alleged encounters in the Liaquatabad area on Sunday.

Central SSP Dr Mohammed Imran Khan said in the first incident, two street criminals snatched valuables from a passer-by near Liaquatabad Dak Khana. As they were fleeing, the robbery victim raised alarm, alerting personnel of Shaheen Force.

He said on seeing the police, the criminals resorted to firing and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire the two suspects were killed.

The police claimed to have recovered weapons, a cell phone and a motorcycle from them.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

One of the deceased was identified as Mohammad Sajjad.

In the second incident, a suspected robber was gunned down within the remit of the Super Market police station.

A police patrol signalled two motorcyclists to stop near Choona Depot, Liaquatabad. However, the suspects resorted to firing in their bid to flee. The police returned fire, killing one suspect, later identified as Muhammad Hammad. His accomplice managed to escape.

The SSP claimed that he was an active street criminal involved in multiple robberies.
