RAWALPINDI: Commissioner Abdul Aamer Khattak on Saturday took serious notice of the persistent water leakage issue in Benazir Bhutto Hospital basement and asked to solve a longstanding problem.

He stated this in a meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the commissioner at the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) office to address the issue of water leakage in the basement of Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

The meeting was attended by the hospital administration and heads of all relevant departments.

The commissioner emphasised that ensuring the safety of the hospital’s building and infrastructure must remain the top priority.

During the briefing, it was informed that water accumulation is occurring in various parts of the hospital, primarily due to a high underground water table and seepage issues.

Boreholes have been drilled at multiple locations to thoroughly assess the nature of the problem.

The commissioner was further briefed that efforts are underway to improve water flow by increasing the size of openings in sewerage lines.

Additionally, it was proposed to construct pits at specific locations and install motors to pump out water into the main sewerage system.

Commissioner Khattak directed that all measures must ensure the structural safety of the hospital building and stressed the importance of adopting long-term and effective solutions rather than temporary fixes.

He instructed that a comprehensive report on the issue be prepared and submitted at the earliest.

He further directed the hospital administration to work in close coordination with all relevant departments to identify a sustainable and effective solution.

He also emphasised maintaining close liaison with the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and taking immediate technical measures to resolve this serious issue at the earliest.
