KARACHI: Speakers at a seminar held on the Abdul Haq campus of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) expressed concern about the growing incidents of harassment in educational institutions and discussed the measures for their prevention.
The event was attended by the faculty members and students alike, said a statement.
The speakers shed detailed light on various dimensions of this sensitive issue, including different forms of harassment, its social and psychological impacts, and the available remedies under the existing legal framework.
The critical need to ensure a safe, dignified, and respectful environment within educational institutions was emphasised on this occasion. The speakers stressed the importance of raising awareness against harassment, enforcing laws effectively, and developing clear and practical institutional policies.
Students were encouraged to speak out against any form of harassment without fear and to remain fully aware of their legal rights. At the same time, educational institutions were urged to establish transparent and effective mechanisms for addressing complaints.
Those who spoke included Chairperson of Sindh Women Lawyers Alliance Advocate Shazia Nizamani, General Secretary of Home-Based Women Workers Federation Zahra Khan, Assistant Professor, IR Department of FUUAST Dr Asghar Dashti and others.
