NOWSHERA, June 30: Five members of a family died when the coach they were travelling in was washed away by a torrent in a watercourse near Saleh Khana in Cherat on Friday.

The family was going to the Peshawar international airport to receive relatives who were coming from London.

Coach driver Qismat Gul said he was crossing the watercourse when the vehicle stuck in the middle, 80km from here. The watercourse was in flood owing to heavy rainfall in the area on Thursday night and a torrent of water washed away the coach.

Those who drowned were Maeeda, wife of Wazir Badshah; their son Kamran and daughters Lubna and Savera, and Fehmida, wife of Zardad.

Our Khar correspondent adds: One woman was washed away by a hill torrent in the Bhai Cheena village in the Mamond subdivision on Thursday evening.
