KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Law and Home Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar discussed the key legal and security matters concerning the city and the province in a meeting with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Thursday, said a statement.
The meeting was also attended by Advocate General Sindh Jawad Dero and Barrister Haya Iman Zahid of the Legal Aid Society.
During the meeting, the participants discussed various legal issues, the resolution of public grievances, and ensuring the timely delivery of justice. It was agreed that improving citizens’ access to legal services is the need of the hour, and institutional coordination would be further strengthened in this regard.
The overall law and order situation in Karachi, crime prevention, and enhancement of security measures were also reviewed in detail. Emphasis was laid on curbing street crime, improving police performance, and ensuring the effective use of modern technology.
The meeting also focused on the annual performance review of the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre (SLACC), a platform established by the Legal Aid Society with the support of the Government of Sindh Law Department, said a statement by the Legal Aid Society.
It added that between July 2024 and June 2025, SLACC provided free legal advice to more than 47,000 individuals, reflecting both the scale of need and the effectiveness of the service. Since its inception, 550,000 citizens have been assisted through SLACC.
The efforts undertaken by the provincial government in collaboration with the Legal Aid Society were appreciated. It was further agreed to expand these initiatives to ensure prompt and affordable justice for the common citizen.
