KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has claimed to have arrested four suspects linked to online groups involved in matriculation examination paper leaks.

SIU SSP Dr Samiullah Soomro told Dawn that his unit had been tasked with curbing cheating during the ongoing matriculation examinations.

He said one of the held suspects was a final-year university student of cybersecurity, who had created at least 13 WhatsApp groups, each with around 1,000 students. He was charging between Rs800 and Rs1,200 per student was reportedly using a UK-based mobile number.

The SIU has registered an FIR against the suspects under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Telegraph Act. Further investigation is underway.
