KARACHI: A judicial magistrate has sent a man to prison on judicial remand in a case pertaining to blackmailing his ex-fiancée after she broke off her relationship with him.

National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had booked a suspect for offences under Sections 20 (offences against dignity of a natural person), 21 (offences against modesty of a natural person and minor) and 24 (cyber stalking) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 read with 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the NCCIA, the complainant stated that she had been engaged to the suspect, and both were in contact with each other through social media platforms.

She further stated that when she came to know that the suspect was already married and had two children with his first wife, she broke off her relationship with him. However, she alleged that the suspect threatened her that he would share her explicit videos and pictures — which were recorded without her consent — with others if she ended the relationship.

The FIR stated that during the inquiry, a raid was conducted near Paracha Chowk in District West, where the suspect was apprehended and a mobile phone was recovered from him. It added that initial technical analysis of the seized mobile phone revealed the “presence and transmission of obscene content” belonging to the complainant.

After his arrest, the NCCIA produced him before Judicial Magistrate (West) Inamullah Phulpoto and sought a 14-day physical remand for interrogation and to apprehend his accomplices.

However, the investigation officer failed to satisfy the court through his arguments, and the court remanded the suspect to prison on judicial remand, directing the IO to submit the challan within the stipulated period.
