QUETTA: A meeting of the Balochistan cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Thursday, approved a series of key policy decisions to promote development, good governance, and public welfare.

The chief minister’s adviser on political and media affairs, Shahid Rind, said the cabinet had approved a comprehensive policy for the utilisation of the Balochistan Climate Change Fund to ensure a coordinated and effective response to climate-related challenges.

The cabinet also approved the province’s first Advertisement Policy 2026 to eliminate dummy publications, encourage credible and market-based media organisations, and promote transparency and merit.

Separately, the cabinet approved the Balochistan Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill to ensure sustainable growth in the fisheries sector, conserving marine resources, and adopting modern practices.

It was further decided to merge the Balochistan Coastal Development Authority and Pasni Fish Harbour into the Fisheries Department. The cabinet also approved the use of AI in recruitment for posts from Grade 4 up to below Grade 16. The new system will be implemented from the next financial year after June. All departments have been directed to clear pending recruitment cases. On wheat procurement, the cabinet endorsed the federal government’s policy of building strategic reserves through the private sector. In case of insufficient local participation, the provincial government will approach the federation for the procurement of 100,000 metric tonnes of wheat to ensure food security.

The cabinet further approved the allocation of Rs3 billion as seed money for the Balochistan Awami Endowment Fund, along with Rs1 billion for liabilities. The fund is expected to support initiatives in education, health, and other social sectors.
