ISLAMABAD: In an outstanding performance, Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baig reached the boys singles and doubles finals of the Subh-e-Nau ITF Pakistan Junior International Tennis Championship (Leg-II) here at the PTF Tennis Complex on Thursday.

Mikaeel in a gripping semi-final edged past compatriot Abubakar Talha 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-4. Mikaeel will face Sri Lanka’s Ganuka Fernando who defeated Amir Mazari of Pakistan 6-1, 6-4 in the other last-four match.

Maintaining his impressive form in the doubles semi-final, Mikaeel partnered with compatriot Ahtesham Humayun to overcome the Pakistan duo of Zohaib Afzal Malik and Mohammad Yahya 6-3, 6-4.

Mikaeel and Ahtesham will take on Fernando and Hong Kong’s Jayden Park in the decider.

In the girls singles semi-finals, Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova outplayed Yijiia Wang of China 6-4, 6-1 while China’s Zhiyu Zhou routed compatriot Zihan Feng 6-3, 6-3.The finals of all categories will be staged on Thursday.
