PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department in a late-night intelligence-based operation killed two wanted terrorists near the Regi Northern Bypass here, the police said on Wednesday.

The CTD conducted the operation on a tip-off and set up an ambush point in the area.

During the operation, an exchange of fire took place between the law enforcers and the terrorists, in which two terrorists, identified as Abbas and Usman, were killed.

Officials said the terrorists were involved in the killing of CTD constable Sanaullah. Abbas, in particular, was wanted in 11 terrorism cases, including the incidents that resulted in the deaths of five police personnel and injuries to more than a dozen others. The CTD also recovered the mobile phone of constable Sanaullah from Abbas’s possession.

Meanwhile, other accomplices of the terrorists managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Following the encounter, heavy contingents of police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the fleeing suspects.

The CTD reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations against terrorists to ensure peace and security in the region.

Meanwhile, the city police on Wednesday arrested a suspect, who was charged in a murder case, and recovered the weapon used in the offence.

Matani police arrested the suspect during a raid within 24 hours of the murder.

A spokesperson of the capital city police said the raid was conducted under the supervision of DSP Budhber circle Wajid Shah and SHO Matani police station Ejazullah on the directives of SP Saddar division Mohammad Arshad Khan.

The police tracked down and arrested the suspect, identified as Zardad.
