LARKANA: Sindh United Party (SUP) President Syed Zain Shah has deplored that opposition’s political freedom is being systematically curtailed in the province.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Larkana District Bar Association on Friday evening.

Mr Shah, who is also convener of the Sindh Action Committee (SAC), said that opposition parties are being denied the right to hold rallies and public gatherings in Sindh. The same situation prevails in Punjab and other provinces as well, he said.

The SUP leader said that through the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, the foundations of the judiciary have been shaken. The Pakistan Electronic Crime Act (Peca) is being used to throttle the Press so that journalist could not speak the truth. He said that water issue has become a source of insecurity for the entire country, adding that the youth, farmers, lawyers, doctors and ordinary people of Sindh had collectively waged a struggle, and that their united movement has become a source of fear for the establishment.

He claimed that attempts were being made to control the country’s governance system and electoral process. An environment is being created to run governments in accordance with dictated policies.

Zain Shah said that injustice is being done to the provinces in various legislation, privatisation matters and distribution of resources.

Among those present at the meeting were District Bar Association President Javed Ahmed Baledi, Barrister Kazim Ali Abbasi, Roshan Buriro, Mehmood Bhutto, Roshan Kalhoro, Amir Soho and Manzoor Shaikh.
