LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced a member of a banned outfit to seven-year rigorous imprisonment on charges of possessing explosive material.

ATC Judge Shahid Sikandar announced the verdict, declaring the accused guilty after the prosecution established its case with evidence. The court also ordered confiscation of all properties of convict Umar Gul Khan.

According to the prosecution, the accused was found in possession of explosive material. The state counsel further informed the court that the convict belongs to Waziristan and was associated with a banned outfit.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) stated that the accused had been involved in terrorist activities. A case against him was registered in 2024.

Following the announcement of the verdict, the judge ordered that the convict be shifted to the Kot Lakhpat Jail to serve his sentence.

REMAND: An anti-terrorism court on Friday granted an 11-day physical remand of a suspect involved in a firing incident at the sessions court that left two people injured.

The Islampura Police produced accused Nadeem Akhtar before the court and sought his 30-day physical remand to conduct further investigation, including a photogrammetric test.

According to the police, the suspect opened fire outside a courtroom at the sessions court, injuring two individuals. One of the victims, Saad, sustained a bullet wound to the abdomen and two to his legs, while a passerby, Usman, was also injured in the incident.

Police told the court that the accused was a hired shooter and had been assigned the task of killing two under-trial suspects, Saad and Faizan.

The police said Faizan was already in custody in a murder case, while Saad was on bail at the time of the attack.

After examining the police record, the ATC approved an 11-day remand of Nadeem and directed the police to produce him again at the next hearing.
