LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said farmers are being supported by the government through distribution of green tractors, wheat and rice combine harvesters, super seeders and other modern agricultural machinery across the province.

“Our farmer-friendly initiatives are beginning to transform the fortunes of farmers,” the chief minister said in a statement here on Wednesday.

The chief minister said over 20,000 green tractors had already been delivered to farmers, while the process was underway to provide 10,000 more tractors to them.

Through the High-Tech Mechanisation Financing Programme, the farmers now have an access to advanced machinery, including combine harvesters and high-powered tractors, supported by a loan allocation of Rs30 billion for the farmers and service providers, she said.

Additionally, the chief minister said that 5,000 super seeders had been distributed among the farmers at a cost of Rs4 billion, significantly improving the wheat sowing process.

The initiative also contributed to a gradual reduction in smog through the use of rice super seeders.

Ms Nawaz emphasised that mechanisation was steering Punjab’s agriculture towards modern farming practices, reducing costs and increasing productivity.

The chief minister urged the farmers to move away from the outdated traditional methods and adopt modern machinery to enhance agricultural output and sustainability.
