RAWALPINDI: Police have continued their crackdown on violators of the Tenancy Act, registering 431 cases and arresting 644 individuals so far this year.

A police spokesman said that, following orders from the City Police Officer Rawalpindi, search operations are ongoing across the city daily to enforce the Tenancy Act.

Senior officers are checking tenant registration reports daily, as police also gather verification certificates from in-charges, chairmen, councillors, and market presidents throughout the city.

The spokesman stated that a comprehensive crackdown is in progress on violators of the Tenancy Act. Citizens are advised to register tenants and employees immediately at the nearest police station, Police Khidmat Markaz, or via the Punjab Police mobile app.

Violators of the Tenancy Act should be reported through official social media channels or at the nearest police station, with the confidentiality of informants assured, the spokesman added.

He also warned that failure to register tenants constitutes a punishable offence. Rawalpindi Police are collecting verification certificates from responsible persons, the chairman, the councillors, and the presidents of markets across the city. It is mandatory for all citizens to register their tenants and employees immediately.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects was killed while two others managed to escape during an encounter with police in the Rawat area on Tuesday night, police said.

The encounter happened when police attempted to stop three motorcycle riders under suspicion. In response, the suspects opened fire on officers in the vicinity of Rawat police station, police said.

One suspect was shot dead during the exchange, and the two others escaped. The police recovered the motorcycle and weapons used by the suspects.

The deceased was allegedly previously involved in cases related to drugs, illegal weapons, attempted murder, theft, and robbery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A search was conducted in the area to apprehend the fugitives. The body has been taken to the hospital for postmortem examination.
