RAWALPINDI: A 28-year-old man drowned in a drain while fishing in a village near Chak Beli Khan Road on the third day of Eidul Fitr on Monday.

A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said the man had reportedly slipped into the water while fishing after losing his balance and drowned.

Upon receiving information, the rescue team reached the spot, pulled him out of the water, provided first aid and shifted him to the hospital. However, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a deaf and mute boy was allegedly sexually abused by four persons within the limits of the Dhamial police area.

According to a police spokesman, a case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s father, and an investigation had been launched.

The victim’s father said he went in search of his son after he suddenly disappeared from home. After a prolonged search, he found him returning from a street in the neighbourhood. On seeing his father, the boy started crying and informed him through sign language that four men had sexually assaulted him.

Upon receiving information about the incident, CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani took notice and the police registered a case and arrested the four suspects.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital for a medical examination, and a case registered against the accused. The arrested suspects would be challaned with solid evidence and given due punishment, police said.
