SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A dialysis technician, identified as Mohammad Arif Wazir, was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Shaheed Mor in the Wana tehsil of Lower South Waziristan district on Friday evening, the police said.

According to district police officer Mohammad Tahir Shah, the attackers managed to flee the scene immediately after the incident. Law enforcement personnel reached the site promptly, cordoned off the area, and initiated a search operation to trace the suspects.

Police officials confirmed that the deceased was serving as a health technician at the Community Health Centre, Amir Mohammad Kot.

Family sources stated that Mohammad Arif had no known personal enmity, making the incident particularly alarming and raising concerns about targeted violence in the region.

Meanwhile, the health department expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss as irreparable.

It is pertinent to mention here that incidents of violence have witnessed a significant surge over the past year in Lower South Waziristan, Upper South Waziristan, and North Waziristan. Cases of bomb explosions, target killings, kidnappings for ransom, and attacks on security forces and police checkpoints have intensified, creating a sense of fear and insecurity among local residents.
