KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) has remanded a man, said to be associated with the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), into the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in an explosives substance case.
Suspect Ihsanullah was brought before the administrative judge of the ATCs at the Judicial Complex inside Central Prison. The CTD sought his custody for interrogation.
The investigation officer (IO) informed the court that acting on a tip-off, the CTD had apprehended the suspect from Malir on March 15 and claimed that it had recovered a hand grenade from the suspect’s possession.
He added that initial interrogation revealed that the suspect allegedly belonged to the TTP, had ties with a neighbouring country, and committed acts of terrorism at that country’s behest.
He requested to grant his physical custody to interrogate the suspect and apprehend his accomplices.
After hearing the IO and examining the remand paper, the court remanded the suspect into CTD custody for interrogation and directed the IO to produce him on March 19 before the court along with a progress report.
In a statement, the CTD claimed that during interrogation, the suspect revealed that he was planning an attack on security forces in Karachi. He had told investigators that he and his accomplices got targets from a neighbouring country.
A case was registered at the CTD police station under Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act.
