Model Madressah to be set up in AJK

Published February 9, 2002

MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 8: Like in other provinces of Pakistan the federal government would establish a model Madressah (religious school) in Azad Kashmir, AJK minister for Zakat and Ushr Sahibzada Hafiz Hamid Raza told reporters here on Friday.

He said the federal minister for religious affairs Dr Mehmood Ahmed Ghazi had assured him that Azad Kashmir would not be excluded from his ministry’s plan to set up model Madressah in the provinces.

The minister said, since the Khud-kifalat (self-reliance) scheme had produced positive results in Pakistan, the same would be introduced in Azad Kashmir by the Zakat and Ushr department.

He said he had directed the department to prepare a report for the launching of this scheme at the earliest with a view to enable the Zakat recipients to earn their livelihood.

According to Raza, Dr Ghazi had also agreed to his demand regarding the representation of the Ulema of Azad Kashmir in the official Haj delegation of Pakistan.
