QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has seized smuggled and illegal medicines worth more than Rs3 million during a raid in the provincial capital and arrested one suspect, officials said.

Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Director of FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle Fazlur Rehman said the agency’s team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a medical store in Quetta and recovered a large quantity of smuggled medicines. He said a suspect, identified as Waseem, was arrested during the operation.

According to him, the seized medicines had been illegally smuggled from neighbouring countries, including Iran and India. The total value of the recovered medicines is estimated at over Rs3m. He said the FIA’s crackdown against those involved in the sale of illegal medicines would continue without interruption. A case has been registered against the arrested suspect under the Drugs Act, 1976, and further investigation is underway.
