QUETTA. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan on Friday held a meeting to implement the “National Earthquake Guidelines 2026”, aimed at transitioning from reactive measures to a scientific, pre-emptive strategy following a series of alarming tremors experienced across the province.

According to official data, the year 2026 has already seen multiple earthquakes, with magnitudes reaching up to 5.6 on the Richter scale, specifically impacting Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi and Jaffarabad.

During the meeting, seismologists warned that these tremors could be precursors to significant aftershocks or more powerful seismic events. Consequently, all district administrations and rescue agencies have been placed on ‘high alert’.

The PDMA directed all stakeholders to submit weekly progress reports to ensure that the guidelines are actively implemented on the ground.
