GILGIT: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has initiated work on another key Confidence Building Measure (CBMs) project under the Diamer Bhasha Dam Project.

Wapda has signed a contract with the contractor to commence work on the Chilas Water Supply Project, aimed at providing clean drinking water to the city of Chilas.

The agreement signing ceremony was held at a local hotel in Chilas. The contract was signed by General Manager/Project Director Diamer Basha Dam, Engr Dr Nazakat Hussain, and General Manager of Hasnaat Brothers Construction Company, Mehtab Ahmed, in the presence of officials from the Diamer Administration and members of the Dam Ulema Committee Diamer.

Under the agreement, practical work to supply clean drinking water to Chilas city will begin shortly. The project, costing approximately Rs 3.78 billion, will ensure the provision of clean drinking water to nearly 100,000 residents of Chilas for the next 50 years upon completion.
