BATTAGRAM: Police have launched a crackdown on unregistered motorcycles, underage bikers as well as those riding without helmets and impounded scores of motorcycles in Battagram district on Saturday.
According to DPO Qamar Hayat, they have started stern action against unregistered motorcycles, underage bikers and those who are riding without safety measures and helmets. He said that the drive would continue to discourage law violators and bring them under the law.
During the operation, several bikes were impounded within the police lines and cases were registered under sections 523 and 550 CrPC.
Traffic police officials stated that the bikes were seized because they were suspected to be stolen or linked to a crime. Without registration number plates, it is difficult for the police to determine the legal status of the bikes.
Meanwhile, minors who were riding unregistered bikes without safety gear had their guardians sign an undertaking that no such violation would be committed in the future.
The traffic police claimed that unregistered bike owners were directed to first register their bikes with the excise and taxation department, after which they would be returned.
DPO Qamar Hayat emphasised that due to the prevailing law and order situation in the country, it is necessary for citizens to register their bikes and other vehicles to avoid unpleasant situations.
He stated that minor underage bikers and those riding without safety gear besides their own lives pose a threat to people’s lives.
Traffic police have been instructed to deal with such law violators with an iron hand.
He asked parents not to hand over bikes, cars or other vehicles to underage drivers, as they pose a threat to public lives. He also sought their cooperation to minimise traffic related issues.
