PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Thursday said no negligence or delay would be tolerated in implementation of the Good Governance Roadmap.

“Aligning service delivery with people’s expectations and needs is the fundamental and ultimate mission of our government. All delayed tasks should be completed at the earliest through innovative and result-oriented strategies,” Mr Afridi told a meeting called here to review service delivery of provincial departments under the Good Governance Roadmap, according to an official statement.

Officials highlighted completed tasks and progress on ongoing initiatives.

The chief minister said that all mid-term measures under the Good Governance Roadmap should be completed by next June.

Asks departments to immediately initiate budget process

He ordered timely completion of all necessary arrangements for the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign, the largest in the province’s history.

Mr Afridi emphasised active participation of government employees, students and civil society and ordered promotion of fruit-bearing plants in the province, especially in government offices and official residences.

The meeting also discussed the proposed “Roshan Qabail Package” worth Rs1 trillion for the merged tribal districts.

Mr Afridi said that the package should be finalised within the current month and made operational to accelerate development activities in the merged districts.

He directed all provincial departments to immediately initiate the budget preparation process for the next fiscal year.

The chief minister said meetings of the Provincial Development Working Party should be held on a weekly basis to ensure timely approval and implementation of development projects.

Regarding the health sector, the chief minister said that recruitment of contractual doctors in government hospitals should be completed by March 5.

He also ordered immediate steps for the launch of mammography services at district headquarters hospitals in southern districts and at regional DHQ hospitals in other districts.

Mr Afridi said that non-functional and damaged tubewells across the province should be restored on a priority basis to provide immediate relief to the people.

He said there was a need for increasing the teachers’ attendance in government schools from 90 per cent to 100 per cent through an effective monitoring mechanism.

Reviewing matters related to law and order and infrastructure, the CM ordered acceleration of work on the Kumrat and Hangu Sarozei roads and ordered heightened security for polio teams to ensure the uninterrupted vaccination campaigns.

He said that the “Ehsaas Apna Ghar Programme” reflected the vision of the party’s leader and former prime minister, Imran Khan.

Mr Afridi said that the project should be completed on a fast track basis to ensure provision of housing facilities to deserving families.

Officials informed the meeting that a total of 327 interventions had been identified in 17 provincial departments, with 47 completed and 139 being executed.

They also said that 268 milestones had been set under the Good Governance Roadmap and 90 of them had been completed, while only three were currently “off the track”.

The CM said that good governance, transparency and effective service delivery remained the government’s top priorities.

He directed all departments to work collaboratively and with a shared sense of responsibility to achieve these objectives.
