PLAYGROUNDS FOR CHILDREN: Playgrounds are essential for the physical and mental development of children. However, in many areas of Balochistan, there are no proper playgrounds. While children in other provinces enjoy parks and sports facilities, children in Baloch-istan remain deprived of even basic play areas. Due to this, many children get addicted to mobile phones and drugs, which negatively affects their education and social behaviour. Balochistan is a resource-rich province, but the government pays no attention to the need of facilities for the young. The authorities concerned need to construct play-grounds in both urban and rural areas of Balochistan, and provide sports facilities in schools and communities so that our children may have a healthy environment.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: The menace of terrorism has claimed many innocent lives. It is the collective responsibility of the state, the government and society at large to play their part in defeating anti-state elements. The government can broadcast a simple message after every call for prayers, urging people to be vigilant about their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity or individual to the local police station. Furthermore, advertisements should be published across the national print and electronic media to clearly define and identify what exactly constitutes a suspicious activity or a person. These simple steps will likely promote awareness and ensure safety and security of the people of Pakistan.

BOARD OF PEACE: This is with reference to the report “Pakistan likely to attend ‘Board of Peace’ meeting” (Feb 9). It would have been better had Pakistan joined the board as an observer. Besides, before Pakistan signed up to be a member, there was no news about the invitation having been placed before the cabinet for approval. Rather ironically, Pakistan has joined a platform that has been criticised by even the people of Palestine.
