PESHAWAR: The second round of the unique vehicle number plates auction has fetched the government over Rs470 million in revenues.
The first auction of personalised choice vehicle number plates had taken place on January 28, with ‘Wazir-1’, one of the plates, fetching the highest bid of Rs15 million.
A statement issued here on Sunday said that in response to the provincial government’s citizen-oriented reforms, bidders pushed prices of tribes and regional name choice vehicle number plates to unprecedented levels, raising Rs470.3 million in a single day during the second auction organised by the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The second auction was held at the Arena Hall of Qayyum Sports Complex, where bidders showed extraordinary interest in plates bearing tribal and regional identities, the statement said.
A total of 30 choice number plates were auctioned with the highest bid of the auction recorded for ‘Dawar-1’, sold for Rs175 million to an individual, namely Inzamul Haq.
The second highest bid was placed on ‘Orakzai-1’, which was purchased for Rs41 million by former senator and MPA Aurangzeb Khan. The ‘Waziristan-1’ was auctioned for Rs40.6 million and was purchased by Faizur Rehman, while ‘Mohmand-1’ was sold for Rs32.1 million.
The auction ceremony was attended by director general excise, taxation and narcotics control Abdul Haleem Khan, along with other directors and senior officers of the department.
A large number of interested bidders actively participated in the event.
During the auction, ‘Bajaur-1’ was sold for Rs33.5 million to Abbas Shah, ‘Khyber-1’ fetched Rs20.1 million and was purchased by Haji Ikhtiar Mohammad.
Likewise, ‘Mehsud-1’ was acquired by Abbas Khan Mehsud for Rs22 million, ‘Gujjar-1’ by Raza Khan Gujjar for Rs16.3 million, and ‘Pashtun-1’ by Ameerullah for Rs13.2 million.
Other notable sales included ‘Buner-1’ for Rs9.5 million by Malik Asad Khan, ‘Mardan-1’ for Rs6.8 million by Hafiz Sher Rehman, and ‘Dir-1’ for Rs6.7 million by Mohammad Tahir Khan.
The statement said that ‘Jadoon-1’ was sold for Rs7.1 million to Samiullah, ‘Khalil-1’ for Rs6.5 million to Gul Zaib, ‘Khattak-1’ for Rs6.1 million to Mohammad Faizan, and ‘Taj-1’ for Rs4.2 million to Fayyaz Ahmed Khan.
Among other plates, ‘Kohat-1’ fetched Rs4.3 million, ‘Sheikh-1’ Rs2.7 million, ‘Swat-1’ Rs3 million, ‘Abbottabad-1’ Rs1.7 million, ‘Marwat-1’ Rs2.6 million, ‘Syed-1’ Rs3.3 million, and ‘Kulachi-1’ Rs2.5 million.
Bidders also placed competitive offers on several other plates, reflecting strong public participation and enthusiasm for the initiative.
