ISLAMABAD: Pakistan sealed a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Senegal in their Davis Cup World Group II tie on Saturday, clinching the decisive third point in the doubles rubber before completing a clean sweep in the reverse singles at the Pakistan Tennis Federation Complex.
The experienced Pakistani duo of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Muzammil Murtaza secured the winning tie point with a straight-sets triumph over Senegal’s Seydina Andre and Nicolas Jadoun, winning 7-6, 7-6.
This extended Pakistan’s unassailable lead to 3-0 after establishing a strong foundation on the opening day.With the tie already decided, Pakistan continued its dominance in Saturday’s reverse singles matches.
The first match resulted in a walkover for Pakistan. Muhammad Shoaib then delivered an emphatic performance in the final rubber, defeating Jadoun 7-5, 6-2 to complete the 5-0 whitewash.
On Friday, Pakistan had taken a commanding 2-0 lead by winning both singles encounters.
Muzammil provided the initial breakthrough with a three-set win over Jadoun. Veteran Aqeel Khan then solidified the host’s position with a comeback win against Andre.
