HYDERABAD: Certificates were distributed on Saturday among the 1,500 students who completed a two-month training course held under the Peoples Information Technology Programme.
The course was organised by the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) and the Science and Information Technology department.
Addressing ceremony, Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister for Science, Information and Technology Ali Rashid said this is an era of opportunities. People can educate themselves on their own. It is a comparatively easy time to learn and understand.
He said that in this era, learning and practical skills are more important than degrees. One should not lose hope because after one setback, many opportunities emerge.
Mr Rashid said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah wanted to introduce more programmes for youth education and training which would be announced soon.
He added that youth were the future of the nation and that all required investments were being made for their education, training and skills.
He praised the MUET for its excellent work, stating that after visiting engineering universities in Karachi, he found MUET’s environment and performance to be equally outstanding. He emphasised that a positive attitude leads to success.
MUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tauha Hussain Ali said that the students who received training have transformed after coming to Mehran University.
The university has changed their perspective and outlook on life and employment. He stated that within a short period of two months, the university showed the trainees pathways to future, and now they would move forward toward self-employment and prove to be productive citizens of the country.
He described the programme as an ideal initiative for youth education, adding understanding and training generation Z is a challenging task. He noted that many trained students were already employed and earning good income. These students were now part of Mehran family and its alumni, and university’s doors would always remain open to them for education and training.
Intermediate-passed students with domicile of Hyderabad and Jamshoro passed the two-month course at the university in 12 fields, including digital marketing, graphic designing, website development, Python, Java, e-commerce, mobile applications and social media management.
The students have initially secured employment and collectively earned up to approximately Rs2.9m. The objective of this programme is to provide training and skills to unemployed intermediate-passed youth of the province.
