If you have no clue why people are going crazy over the Masters of the Universe teaser trailer or why your father got goosebumps when that blond boy exclaimed, “I have the power”, you aren’t just missing one of the best animated series, but aren’t even acquainted with ‘the most powerful man in the universe’.

To turn you into a fan ahead of the film’s release this year in June, there is The Masters of the Universe Book, which will make you want to be a part of He-Man’s team.

First of all, let me tell you who He-Man is. He is the defender of Castle Grayskull on the planet Eternia and has an alter ego, Prince Adam. He has been around for over 45 years, and this year a Hollywood film will celebrate his legacy for the first time in 29 years. Through this book, you can travel around Eternia, learn about Castle Grayskull and find out who his friends are and who aren’t.

Officially licensed by Mattel, this stunning all-colour guide is a visual celebration of MOTU’s enduring legacy, including artworks, sketches, posters and merchandise from the official archives. It is not just a treasure trove of images and stories from the original Masters of the Universe series, but also explains the logic behind the creation of that series, from a toy line. After all, it is still not common for a toy company to have an animated series based on its characters and succeed, but He-Man did.

The book also talks about the many times the series was either continued, rebooted or remade. From the relatively lesser-known series in the 1990s to the Cartoon Network series and the recent Netflix resurgence, every He-Man incarnation is detailed in this book.

Every page teaches you something new about the Masters of the Universe, which not only helps the older generation relive their childhood excitement, but also enables you to understand the reason behind that excitement. After all, who wouldn’t want to know characters named Man-At-Arms and his relation with Teela, know why Orko was always bungling with magic and what was Prince Adam’s connection with Planet Earth?

Enough of the friends, let’s talk about the foes. Led by Skeletor, the residents of Snake Mountain want to rule Eternia, and for that, they need Castle Grayskull, which is the source of all magic on the planet. Does he ever succeed in his mission or does he keep trying, you will find out through his gigantic book that has been divided in multiple sections, namely Origins, Getting Animated, Princess of Power, The Motion Picture, The Power of Print, He-Man Returns and A New Era.

As the section titles make clear, the book covers everything about He-Man, including his sister, She-Ra, who is discussed at length in Princess of Power. The Power of Print shows you how comics helped He-Man become more powerful; don’t be surprised to find out that Superman once battled with He-Man and allied with Skeletor, or what happened when Skeletor managed to capture Grayskull.

If you don’t think this is the perfect time to familiarise yourself with all the heroes, villains, amazing battles and incredible locations featuring the Masters of the Universe, think again. Because once the feature film becomes a blockbuster, it might be too late to know about He-Man.

Isn’t it better to explore the full history of the toys, minicomics, TV series, and movies before that, so that when Prince Adam transforms into He-Man, you know exactly the history behind it?
