LOWER DIR: A cycle race was organised by Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Timergara under the ‘Clean and Green’ Timergara campaign, wherein more than 40 cyclists from across the province participated here on Friday.
The race was aimed to raising public awareness, particularly among youth, about cleanliness, plantation and environmental protection.
Starting from Balambat it covered an 18km stretch up to the Bajaur border, with participants promoting messages of a clean environment and healthy living, warmly appreciated by residents.
Tehsil Municipal Officer Timergara Mian Shafiqur Rehman said the Clean and Green campaign was a useful initiative in line with the provincial government’s vision to promote cleanliness and greenery in urban and rural areas. He added that cycling was not only an eco-friendly mode of transport but also contributed to building a healthy society.
Cyclists participating in the event pledged to continue taking part in such activities in the future to play their role in eliminating pollution and ensuring a healthy environment.
Prizes and certificates were distributed by Mr Rehman among the top performers. Sanaullah of Mardan secured first position, Umar Farooq second, Haroon Khan third, Abuzar of Malakand fourth, Adnan Khan of Mardan fifth and Mubeen Jan of Swat sixth.
A large number of TMA officials, local elders and citizens attended the event and appreciated the campaign.
Addressing the gathering, the additional deputy commissioner (general), Wajid Ali Khan, said the Clean and Green Timergara campaign had been launched for the first time in the district’s history, aimed at creating awareness about cleanliness and making society an active partner in the drive.
He said a clean environment was not only essential for healthy living but also a foundation of a civilised and developed society.
