PESHAWAR: Project Director of Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project (TBTTP) Mohammad Junaid Diyar on Monday said that the spring plantation campaign will formally commence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on February 1.

The campaign will be launched as a well-organised, inclusive, and province-wide public movement aimed not only at promoting tree plantation but also at laying the foundation for a safe, green, and environmentally balanced future for coming generations, according to a statement issued here.

He said that during the plantation drive, saplings will be planted at all government offices, hospitals, public and private educational institutions, offices of non-governmental organisations, and adjoining lands.

The campaign will witness active participation from the forest and wildlife departments, law enforcement agencies, judiciary, Pakistan Army, teachers, students, schools, colleges, universities, along with civil society and volunteer organisations.

Mr Diyar further said a large number of indigenous and climate-resilient tree species were being planted in line with the spring season to strengthen ecological balance, conserve groundwater resources, and promote biodiversity. The plantation drive will be implemented uniformly across the province under TBTTP and the Upscaling Green Pakistan Programme.

He further said the forest department had prepared millions of quality saplings in its government nurseries to ensure the success of the campaign.

Appealing to the general public, Mr Diyar emphasised that collective awareness and practical action were crucial to mitigating the growing impacts of climate change.
