SAHIWAL: A woman, in connivance with her friend, allegedly poisoned her husband to death in Gaoshaala Mohalla, Chichawatni City.
According to police, she mixed a soft drink with poison, which was later detected during the final bath before burial.
Abrar Aslam, a resident of Chichawatni, had married Zaib Akmal, a resident of Rahim Yar Khan, two years ago. Zaib had a relationship with one Ihsan Ajmal, which she continued after her marriage. When Abrar became suspicious of their relationship, Zaib and Ihsan conspired to kill him. On Jan 6, after dinner, Zaib reportedly served Ibrar with a the poisoned soft drink. His condition deteriorated rapidly. He was rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where he could not survive. Doctors suspected poisoning.
Initially, Ibrar’s family did not approach the police. However, during the funeral preparations, it became evident that he had been poisoned. The family confronted Zaib and her father, Muhammad Akmal, who had come from Rahim Yar Khan to attend the funeral. On Jan 10, Zaib allegedly confessed to the crime. Subsequently, Chichawatni police booked Zaib, Ihsan Ajmal and one unidentified accomplice. A case was registered on the complaint of the deceased’s elder brother, Bilal Aslam.
TORTURED: Around 14 students allegedly stopped a bus, assaulted its driver and conductor and snatched Rs50,000 from them at Sarwar Chowk.
They also smashed the windscreen and damaged the bus after its driver did not stop to pick the students.
Muhammad Ashfaq was driving the bus from Faisalabad to Fort Abbas when the students intercepted it at Sarwar Chowk. Armed with sticks, bricks and other objects, the students pulled the driver and conductor out of the bus and ordered passengers to disembark. Once the passengers left the bus, the students broke the windscreen and vandalised the bus.
Bahadur Shah Police were informed and a team rushed to the scene. Four students were arrested while others managed to escape.
The police registered a case against Malik Sabir, Imtiaz, Tahir, Zahid, and 10 unidentified students on the complaint of the bus driver.
KIDNAPPED: In the past 36 hours, three girls and two married women were kidnapped in separate incidents across district Sahiwal.
In the first case, 35-year-old lady health visitor (LHV) Mahwish Luqman was abducted by three unidentified men from her workplace, Mariam Nawaz Health Clinic, at Chak 90/9-L. Her husband Javed Iqbal told the police that the kidnappers used a car when she was at her workplace.
In the second incident, Mariam Nawaz, daughter-in-law of landlord Muhammad Riaz, was kidnapped from Chak 89/12-L by Zahid, Shahid, and their unidentified accomplice, in a car.
In the third incident, Sataish Masih, daughter of Basharat Masih, was abducted by Ali Gulzar and two unidentified men from Chak 47/12-L.
In the fourth case, Khadija Fatima, 17, daughter of vegetable seller Muhammad Shabbir, was kidnapped by unidentified persons along with Rs550,000 in cash and gold ornaments.
In the fifth incident, Fatima, 17, daughter of Muhammad Shaban, was kidnapped by Saghir Baloch and three unidentified men from Chak 114/7-R with the kidnappers also looting Rs600,000 from the house.
Separate cases were registered by Ghala Mandi, Okanwala Bangla, Yousafwal, and Saddar police stations, Chichawatni while four suspects had been arrested in the cases.
