QUETTA: A woman was killed in a gas explosion that took place in the Killi Umar area on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Sunday.

Police said a powerful explosion occurred inside a house due to gas accumulation. The woman sustained critical burn injuries and was shifted to the burn unit of Civil Hospital Quetta, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The deceased was identified as the niece of Nazar Barech, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation, Balochistan.

Over the past few days, around half a dozen gas leakage incidents have been reported in different parts of Quetta, leaving at least 15 people injured, including women and children, and causing damage to several houses.

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has advised residents to switch off gas appliances before going to sleep and ensure that gas supply valves are closed when supply is suspended at midnight.

Two unidentified bodies found

Police on Saturday recovered the bodies of two unidentified persons from separate areas of Quetta.

According to police, personnel from Bijli Road police station found the body of an unidentified man within their jurisdiction and shifted it to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. In a separate incident, another unidentified body was recovered near the Sariab Phatak area.

Residents of the respective localities informed the authorities about the dumped bodies, following which police rushed to the sites, took the bodies into custody and shifted them to the Civil Hospital, Quetta, for post-mortem examination.

Police said the deceased could not be identified immediately. Investigations into the deaths were underway.
