BANNU: Three cops were injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu as a police vehicle transporting prisoners to Hangu came under attack by “terrorists” on Thursday, sources said.

Sources in Bannu police told Dawn that the vehicle, which belonged to Hangu police and was carrying prisoners for court appearances, came under fire at Domel Link Road.

A source in the Bannu Central Jail’s administration also confirmed this to Dawn, saying that the prisoners were being transported for court hearings as per routine. The vehicle was attacked on the way to the court, the source said.

Sources in Bannu police said the vehicle’s driver changed route and reached Karak following the incident.

The sources said two of the injured cops were being provided medical treatment at the district headquarters hospital in Karak, adding that Hangu District Police Officer Khanzaib Mohmand also visited the injured personnel at the hospital.

Separately, Karak police confirmed to Dawn that total three cops had sustained injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, an investigation into the attack is under way and security in the area has been beefed up, according to police sources.

In recent days, multiple attacks targeting law enforcement personnel have been reported from various parts of KP.

On January 4, a policeman was martyred in firing by unidentified attackers in the Kashfi Khel area of Bannu.

The martyred constable Rashid Khan was leaving his home for work on Sunday morning when some armed assailants, who were on a motorcycle, opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Last month, five cops were injured after terrorists launched a late-night attack on a police checkpost in the Shaikh Landak area of Bannu.
