RAWALPINDI, June 11: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Punjab chapter, has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the province.

Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, PPP provincial information secretary Farzana Raja said Punjab had become a hub of crimes, alleging that the government had turned a blind eye to the menace.

Flanked by MNA Zamurrad Khan, she said incidents of dacoity, kidnap for ransom and murder had increased alarmingly in Rawalpindi, regretting that police miserably failed to save the life of a 10-year-old boy (Mudassar) who was kidnapped for Rs10 million ransom.

Ms Raja said the Punjab government was reluctant in implementing Police Order 2002 and was not holding regular meetings of Public Safety Commission (PSC).

She said monthly meeting of PSC was mandatory under Article 3 (4) of the police order for reviewing law and order situation in the province and regretted that nothing was being done in this regard.

She said the Punjab government had included its own members in the commission which was clear violation of article 79 of the police order.

The PPP Punjab information secretary alleged that the police in connivance with the provincial government was supporting criminals and demanded investigation into the murder cases committed in the last two years.

She criticised the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) for politically victimising PPP workers, adding that a number of civil society organisations had taken notice of the atrocious act.

“The present Punjab government since its inception has contributed nothing for the welfare of the people except for harassment of PPP workers by wanted criminals,” she alleged.

MNA Zamurrad Khan came hard on the Rawalpindi government for not directing the city police to ensure law and order in the district and threatened that people would take to the streets against the ill-performance of the elected members.
