KARACHI: A young motorcyclist was run over and killed by a water tanker in the SITE area, police said on Sunday.

They said that the incident took place late on Saturday night near Habib Chowrangi.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that the driver managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind the tanker which was seized by the police.

He said that the body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Suspect shot dead in ‘encounter’

A man, said to be the ringleader of an inter-provincial gang of robbers, was gunned down in an alleged encounter on Lyari Expressway near Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday.

Special Investigation Unit SSP Dr Mohammed Imran Khan said that the police got a tip-off that suspect Amir would pass through the expressway in a car. As police signalled him, he resorted to firing. The police returned fire, killing him on the spot.

The official said a pistol, Rs2.5 million, gold ornaments were recovered from the car.

“The killed suspect was the ringleader of an inter-provincial gang of robbers who snatched cash and jewellery from their victims,” said the SSP.

He said he was involved in 30 cases registered in Karachi and Lahore.
