LAKKI MARWAT: Elders have asked the provincial government to provide funds for the construction of a road to the rural areas of Lakki Marwat district.

The demand was made at a meeting held in the Mir Azam Michenkhel area on Saturday. Elders and villagers from Mir Azam Michenkhel, Sarkati Michenkhel and Painda Michenkhel were in attendance.

Key participants included Mufti Ihsanullah, Malik Shafiullah, Tor Ali Khan, Kalimullah and village council nazim Younas Khan.

The participants discussed various problems being faced by the rural population and decided to initiate concerted efforts for their early resolution.

They also formed a committee comprising elders and tasked it with taking up the road construction and other issues with government authorities and MPs from the district.

Elders said that construction of the road was the longstanding demand of area people and the government should pay special heed to it.

They demanded of MNA Sher Afzal Marwat and MPAs Johar Muhammad Khan and Tariq Saeed Khan to use their influence to get funds approved for the road project.

DRUG TRAFFICKERS HELD: Police arrested two drug traffickers and seized two kg of hashish from him in the Shahbazkhel area of Lakki Marwat district on Saturday.

A police official said that the action was initiated on a tip off about the possible attempt to smuggle narcotics to Punjab via Lakki Marwat.

He said that a police party led by SHO Zahid Khan foiled the bid and captured drug peddlers identified as Shezad and Zafar Hussain, residents of Darya Khan (Bhakkar).

The arrested suspects along with seized contraband were shifted to the police station where a case was registered against them under relevant sections of law.

Meanwhile, police have decided to launch a drive against unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in Karak district.

A police official said that an advisory note had been issued for transporters and motorcyclists with directions to get their vehicles registered with the relevant agency.
