PESHAWAR: Veteran lawyer and provincial president of Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) Qazi Mohammad Anwar on Sunday announced quitting his post after his defeat in the Pakistan Bar Council polls.

In a video message released on Sunday, he also announced quitting his membership of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Core Committee as well as that of its legal committee.

Against the four seats allocated to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the PBC polls held on Saturday, two candidates enjoying support of the party named Abdul Sattar Khan and Qazi Mohammad Arshad were elected, whereas Mr Anwar couldn’t succeed to become a member of the council.

The remaining two seats were won by senior lawyers Rahmanullah, belonging to Awami National Party’s lawyer wing, Malgaray Wakeelan, and Naveed Akhtar, affiliated with Jamiat Lawyers Forum.

ILF is having five members in the 28-member KP Bar Council, which is the Electoral College for PBC polls in the province.

Despite being president of ILF, Mr Anwar received only a single priority vote in the polls.

In his video message, Mr Anwar said that despite resigning from those posts his personal terms with PTI founder Imran Khan would remain intact.

He said that in his personal capacity he had served the party up to his capacity.
