KARACHI: Pakistan Navy’s shooters Shahrukh Khan, Mohammad Arsalan and Mudasir Khan found their range to smash the national record after Pakistan’s Army’s Lt Misbah claimed the first gold medal on offer at the National Games on Saturday.

Misbah led Army’s sweep of all medals on offer in the women’s 50m prone rifle event, scoring 612.4 points to finish ahead of team-mates Lt Laiba and Zainab Haq Nawaz with the trio’s efforts seeing them clinch the team gold ahead of Navy.

Army also won the individual and team golds in the men’s 50m prone rifle, with Mohammad Tahir spearheading their effort.

Navy, however, turned the tables in the men’s 10m air pistol where their trio amassed a record 1721 points to claim the team gold ahead of Army with Shahrukh bagging the individual honours.

Army’s women footballers turned up the style at the Kakri Ground in Lyari as they thrashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in their opening match. The other match saw Sindh and Wapda play out a 1-1 draw.

Men’s football matches at the KMC Stadium were similarly close with Army earning a 1-0 win over Sindh, Navy beat Police 2-0 while Balochistan played out a 2-2 draw with Wapda.

The hockey event began on Saturday with Army and Punjab serving a goalless draw in the men’s opener.
