KARACHI: Austria’s commitment to peace, multilateral cooperation and its deepening relation with Pakistan were highlighted by the new Ambassador of Austria, H.E. Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera, at a reception held to welcome him to Pakistan at the Honorary Consulate of Austria in Karachi on Thursday evening. The occasion also marked the 60th national day of Austria.
While speaking on the occasion the new ambassador said that this is his first time in Karachi after assuming office. “I find it a dynamic city, full of energy and cultural diversity,” he said.
He said that he first visited the Mazar-i-Quaid here. “It was a moment of reflection and humility for me to understand Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s vision, resilience and principled leadership,” he added.
He also said that Austria and Pakistan share a strong bond, rooted in more than seven decades of diplomatic ties, mutual cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy, education and culture.
“Austrian companies in Pakistan have worked on improving Pakistan’s infrastructure and energy sectors as well as the increasing academic and cultural exchanges between the two countries,” he said.
Since 1965, Austria celebrates its national day to mark their parliament’s passing the constitutional law on permanent neutrality after World War II.
While reaffirming Austria’s dedication to multilateralism, the ambassador highlighted Austria’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, while stressing on the country’s role as a neutral and bridge building nation committed to peace, human rights and international law.
Finally, the ambassador said that he looks forward to exploring Pakistan’s cultural and natural heritage while also trying out its culinary richness.
Austria’s Honorary Consul in Karachi Dr Hussain Islam and Nawabzada Mir Aamer Khan Magsi also spoke on the occasion.
