LAKKI MARWAT: The district administration and Bakkakhel elders have agreed to launch joint efforts for eliminating the menace of terrorism from the region.

The consensus came at a jirga held at the deputy commissioner’s compound in Bannu on Friday.

Deputy commissioner Mohammad Fahim Khan and assistant commissioner Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad represented the government team.

The participants discussed the current law and order situation with special focus on the occurrence of terrorism-related incidents in the area.

An elder said on the occasion that tribesmen always supported the law enforcement agencies to establish peace and flush out terrorists and miscreants from the area. “We want peace on our soil and for this purpose we stand side by side with our police, security forces and other law enforcement agencies,” he added.

The elders informed the government officials about the poor law and order situation and presented suggestions on how to bring normalcy and restore peace in the area.

They reiterated their resolve not to allow anti-state elements to use their land for subversive activities.

The deputy commissioner said establishment of lasting peace in the region was his administration’s top priority, assuring elders that all basic amenities would be provided to tribesmen without delay.

He declared the elders’ support inevitable to achieve the goal of bringing peace to the area. He said holding jirgas would strengthen mutual trust and cooperation between the government and the public.
