KHAR, June 3: A Levies soldier was killed and three others, including the political tehsildar, were wounded after a remote-controlled explosive device went off near here on Friday night.

Officials said that political tehsildar Amir Zaman was patrolling the area along with some Levies personnel when they found a piece of luggage lying along the road some four kilometres from here. The explosion occurred as the Levies men were trying to unwrap the pack, wrapped with a piece of cloth.

One of the Levies personnel identified as Rahat Shah was killed on the spot, while tehsildar Amir Zaman, Sultan Khan and Nazir Khan received minor injuries.

The agency’s political agent Mohammad Fahim Wazir said on Saturday that the wounded officials had been released from hospital.

He said that an inquiry had been ordered into the incident.
