LONDON, June 3: Sussex’s Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed took five quick Middlesex wickets on Saturday at Horsham to seal the county's fifth win in six County Championship starts this season.Middlesex resumed on 131-5 and despite their tail-enders adding another 125 runs, they still lost by 224 runs.

Mushtaq's final-day figures of 6-110 gave him a match haul of 10-202.

England ‘A’ batsman Ed Joyce battled away for over three hours but was ninth out when Mushtaq bowled him for 92.

But Chris Silverwood kept Sussex waiting with a barrage of eight boundaries and two sixes in his 50 off 46 balls before he was stumped off Mushtaq to end game shortly before lunch. Silverwood added 57 for final wicket with Mohammad Ali, who finished unbeaten on 23.

But the day was all about Mushtaq, who has now taken 300 Championship wickets since first joining Sussex in 2003.

He had Ben Scott in fifth over of play and then took revenge on Johann Louw for hoisting him over long-on for six as he bowled him for 10.

Chad Keegan did not detain Mushtaq for long and he then denied Joyce a deserved century by bowling him as he shaped to play ball away on leg side.

After he had removed Silverwood to earn the team 21 points, there was more good news for Sussex with reports that tests on Mushtaq's compatriot Rana Navedul Hasan injured groin had not revealed any tear. Naved may be fit to face Lancashire at Liverpool next Tuesday.—Agencies
